Ambassador Domingo D. Lucenario, Jr. presented his credentials as Philippine Ambassador to Pakistan to H.E. Asif Ali Zardari, the President of Pakistan, in simple ceremonies held on 24 April 2013 at the Governor's House in Karachi.

Ambassador Lucenario was accompanied by his wife Nida Arada Lucenario and Second Secretary and Consul B. Demdem, Jr.

During his meeting with President Zardari, Ambassador Lucenario conveyed the warmest greetings of President Aquino and his desire to further enhance the long-standing friendship between the Philippines and Pakistan.

Ambassador Lucenario also informed President Zardari of the series of activities that are being discussed and considered by both countries to mark the 65th year of the establishment of Philippine-Pakistan diplomatic relation next year.

President Zardari conveyed his best wishes to President Aquino and acknowledged the growing close ties between the Philippines and Pakistan. He noted the cooperation of the two countries on various global issues and particularly stressed the efforts of Pakistan in combatting the menace of terrorism and the vital role of Pakistan in ensuring peace and stability in the region.

President Zardari made mention of the plight of its workers overseas and the many common global issues faced by both countries. He also fondly recalled his meeting with the late President Corazon C. Aquino in London some years ago.

Both President Zardari and the Ambassador shared the view of the importance of holding peaceful elections and the continuing challenges of maintaining the path to democracy. Pakistan will be holding its elections on 11 May 2013 after completing the tenure, for the first time in its history, of the democracy-elected government of Pakistan on 17 March 2013.

President Zardari gifted Ambassador Lucenario with a book written by his wife, the late former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, entitled "Reconciliation" which reflected the vision of the author in bridging the widening gap between the Islamic World and the West. The writing of this book was completed just days before Prime Minister Bhutto was assassinated.

After the presentation of his credentials, Ambassador Lucenario met the leaders of the Filipino Community in Karachi and the officer and members of the Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry. END
